SYARIKAT PEMASARAN KARYANEKA SDN BHD, popularly and commercially known as “KARYANEKA”, was established in 1982 as a wholly owned corporate entity of the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation, which is a statutory agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia.
This box is traditionally made of Mengkuang leaves. Mengkuang commonly called screw palm or screw pine is a large shrub of the genus Pandanus that grows abundantly in the coastal regions of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands.
The leaves are cut, dried and colored before it can be weaved into this beautiful box.
Some of the boxes came with ‘tulang belut’ weaving technic at the cover to give a different texture and look.
